TOP 10 FALL FAVORITE ACTIVITIES

Go Apple Picking – The ultimate fall experience, roaming through orchards picking just the right apples to take home, and of course sample a couple along the way. Pack a picnic most places will have a few tables or some perfect picturesque spots to lay a blanket down. My favorite place to apple pick is Autumn Hills Orchard, its orchards are beautiful and quiet and if you go up the hill the views are breathtaking and you can even see Vermont. Quick tip: an apple is ready to be picked when you can twist it right off the tree with one try.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch– Just like there is a pot for every lid, there is a pumpkin for every person. Whether you like them orange, white, green or bumpy, you will always find the right one for you. Sometimes you can also enjoy in a hayride at these Pumpkin Patches. You can decorate them or just leave them in all their natural beauty glory.  I always enjoy finding my perfect pumpkin at Parlee Farms.

Get lost in a corn maze at night– Don’t forget your flashlight! Corn mazes can be super fun whether it’s during the day or at night. But there is something really exciting about doing it at night, bring some friends or make it a date night. Davis Farmland has the best Corn Maze around! And so many other great activities to enjoy when you are there.

Stroll through a center of town and shop local boutiques– Who doesn’t enjoy the feeling and hearing the crunch of leaves under their feet?  Grab a warm drink from a cozy coffee shop and off you go! Discovering quaint shops while admiring the beautiful colors of fall sounds like the perfect Sunday afternoon activity to me. There is nothing like taking a stroll in my own beautiful Town of Groton.

Refresh your home decor– Swap out your decor, with Fall neutral items. Perhaps sticking to a white, wood and natural color story. Using acorns, white pumpkins and cotton stems as accessories and fillers.  This way it will carry you from September all the way through Thanksgiving. Michaels has amazing home decor items and DIY supplies, and as an extra bonus, they always have great coupons.

Bake a Yummy Treat– Use all of your picked treats to bake up something yummy! I can’t resist a delicious apple crisp topped with ice cream! Or my favorite adult baked treat, Brown Sugar Port Baked Apples. Just core our your favorite apple from the top but not all the way through, fill the hole with a dollop of butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar and bake. Once out of the oven top your baked apple with some Port wine. Make it now and thank me later.

Take a Hike– Step away from technology for a bit and enjoy what nature has to offer. Breathe in some fresh crisp fall air and take a minute to appreciate how amazing mother nature is. Hiking or going on an adventure walk has so many health benefits. Here a just a few examples:

  • Lowers your risk of heart disease
  • Improves your blood pressure and blood sugar levels
  • Helps control weight
  • Helps with balance
  • Mood Booster

My family and I enjoy going on nature walks, our all time favorite is hiking to see the Forest Bells by Paul Matisse. My son loves playing the bells it gives him something to look forward to and explore.

Hit up local breweries for best Oktoberfest selections–  Have fun with some friends or make it a date night, visit local breweries and decide who has the best Oktoberfest selections. Make an itinerary and have fun! Keep score by writing your results on cocktail napkins from each brewery that way you will always know where you had the best beer! On my must visit list is Tree House Brewery. I can’t wait for this date night!

Host a bonfire – Once it gets a little chilly outside this activity is not only a budget friendly option but a fun one. Roast some smores, grab a bottle of wine and enjoy! Try making the smores with a twist. Try adding some fruit, white chocolate or even substitute the graham cracker with a girl scout fan favorite the Peppermint Patty. Or try my personal favorite, Salted Caramel S’mores.

  • Salted Caramel S’mores drizzle some caramel sauce over your s’more than sprinkle with Sea Salt!! YUMMY!!

Get spooked at a haunted house–  I love making it into a girls night and having a few drinks for some liquid courage beforehand and grabbing a bite after, Embrace your fears and enjoy a good fright! Here are a few ways to survive a haunted house, although I think I break all of them.

  • Be kind to the actors, all they want to do is entertain you.
  • Try not to call out your friend’s names they will pick on the whomevers name they hear by repeating and chanting it- this has happened to me on multiple occasions. Or do it for a good laugh! ha!
  • Wear dark clothing so you are hard to see you,  also bundle up some of the experiences are outside.
  • Only go with fun people
